Lynsey Horkins, office and product manager, Otoni
9am We start the day as we mean to go on with a full team workload meeting, to talk about what everyone is working on across products and clients, My part in this is to raise any support requests from clients that are outstanding, in order to get them resolved.
10am Time for coffee and biscuits and a less formal catch up with everyone. Today I speak about marketing with our business development executive, Geraldine and we discuss putting into action the next part of our marketing strategy. We have just launched an exciting communications campaign to raise our profile and to bring Otoni to a whole new audience!
11am I dial in with Stephen, our director, via Teams to bring him up to speed with everything in the office and see if there’s anything in particular he wants me to work on.
11.30am Every fortnight I schedule a call with one of our most important clients just to make sure they’re happy with their bespoke asset intelligence software. Even though it’s completely tailored to each client’s needs, the system can still be adapted, tweaked and developed to suit the ever-changing business landscape. Nothing needs changing for the client currently, but it’s still nice to have a catch up with them and to keep in touch. We have built up some really good relationships with our clients thanks to our commitment to keeping in touch, well beyond delivery.
12.30pm Lunchtime! I try and go for a run to balance out all the time I’ve spent sitting down in the office before tucking into a hearty lunch. I’m going to need the energy to get me through a busy afternoon…
1.30pm Time for a quick asset intelligence team meeting where we look at working on future advancements for the product including machine learning and condition monitoring. Any additional client training which might be needed as a result of changes to the system is up to me to deliver, so it’s crucial I stay on top of any developments.
2pm I check the Otoni asset intelligence demo site is up to date. I try to do this as often as I can as it’s a live demo of the whole system, so we need to know it operates exactly as it would for a client. Any prospective client demos are undertaken by me so I need to keep on top of it!
3pm Time for some admin. It might be boring but it’s essential, particularly because Otoni is ISO 27001:2022 certified, which is the highest information security management standard. As the company ISO representative, it’s up to me to keep documents like our assets, risks and legal registers up to date, carry out internal audits of our policies and processes and organise any cyber security training. We get externally audited annually which I manage.
4pm Other admin also needs looking at, so I spend the last hour of the day ploughing through it. We are currently preparing to test our business continuity and disaster recovery plan with the whole team (this is linked to requirements for the ISO standard), so I make sure that everything is up to date with this. I also complete and submit our application to be a G Cloud 15 supplier, which is a great task to be able to tick off the list!
5pm Going through any appointments which are in the diary for tomorrow and making sure I have everything I need, before logging out for the day. I have a quick chat with the rest of the team about what they’re up to this evening. We’re a sociable lot so there’s always some event or outing to plan and talk about!
5.30pm I leave the office and head to the gym for a HYROX class; hard work but so rewarding! Tonight I’ve got my family coming over for dinner as well so I nip to the supermarket on the way home. Once the evenings start getting lighter I’m looking forward to spending more time at my allotment as well
