Anglian Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater services provider by geographical area. Their @One Alliance – a collaborative partnership of consultants and contractors including MWH, MMB and Balfour Beatty – is responsible for delivering more than half of Anglian’s capital investment programme.

With hundreds of projects underway simultaneously, the Alliance needed a smarter, joined-up way to track performance across schedule, spend and risk — without drowning in data.

The challenge

Between 2015 and 2020, the @One Alliance managed the design and build of around 800 schemes, collectively worth over £1.2bn. With multiple delivery partners, each operating at different stages of project lifecycles, maintaining visibility and alignment was a significant challenge.

They needed a central performance platform — one that could bring together schedule data from P6, financial data from SAP, and narrative updates from across teams — into a single, real-time view.

The solution

Otoni’s programme management platform was deployed to provide what the Alliance described as a “One View of Performance.” The system offered:

  • Live dashboards, with each project represented visually and status flags updating in real time
  • Integrated data feeds from Primavera P6 (for schedule), SAP (for finance), and user-entered health, safety, and quality narratives
  • Custom reporting via embedded BI tools, allowing tailored stakeholder updates
  • Lessons learned tracking to identify recurring issues and embed continuous improvement

All project teams and stakeholders could access and contribute to the same system, reducing silos and enabling better-informed, faster decisions.

Results and impact

Since 2016, the @One Alliance has used the platform to deliver a step-change in programme governance and performance insight. Key outcomes included:

  • A unified source of truth for project data
  • Structured data governance, increasing trust and reducing manual processing
  • Time savings through automated reporting and scheduled stakeholder updates
  • Early identification of emerging risks and underperformance
  • Stronger cross-team alignment on project health, timelines and budget

“The implementation has been a game changer… It’s enabled us to integrate our data across systems, focus on key issues before they escalate, and give stakeholders the confidence they need in our performance reporting.”
