TalkTalk is one of the UK’s leading telecoms providers, operating mission-critical data centres that power services relied on by millions. In such environments, unplanned downtime isn’t just costly — it can be catastrophic.

Since 2012, TalkTalk has worked with Otoni (formerly operating as Asset Handling) to reduce this risk and gain deeper insight into asset health, continuity, and performance across their data centre estate.

The challenge

TalkTalk initially sought to prevent silent failures in critical systems using real-time condition monitoring. But it quickly became clear that they needed a broader view — one that combined live monitoring with asset performance, lifecycle data, and risk management in a single platform.

The solution

We deployed a fully integrated asset intelligence solution across TalkTalk’s data centres. This provided:

  • Real-time monitoring of critical equipment to catch early signs of failure
  • Integrated risk registers and SPOF tracking to support business continuity
  • Custom dashboards, giving engineering teams visibility of asset condition, power usage, and performance trends
  • Lifecycle insights, helping to plan maintenance, upgrades, and capital investment proactively

The platform enabled intelligent load distribution, better use of space, and faster decisions grounded in real-world data.

Results and impact

By moving from reactive checks to live insight, TalkTalk has gained the tools to:

  • Identify and resolve performance issues before failure occurs
  • Optimise power usage and space within racks, cabinets, and data halls
  • Accelerate engineer response to emerging faults
  • Make data-led decisions on asset replacement and investment
  • Minimise downtime and protect continuity of service

“We’ve recently rolled this product out to two of our clients to monitor and protect their critical data centre infrastructure, and have also benefited from the addition of the AIM mobile app. The product is streets ahead of the competition, and with the continuous development drive from Asset Handling, it looks set to cement its position as the leader in this technology.”
